金沢大学で意欲的な試みをされていたコンビの最新作である。
遠くからその作業を見守っていたが、より近くに場を移された。お会いできる時を楽しみにしている。

ただし全文が英文である。海外に向けて発信するには英文が最適である。しかし日本国内に向けて、例えば『考古学ジャーナル』や『縄文時代』といった刊行物に親しんでいる人たちに対しては、筆者たちが意図する内容が届く可能性が日本文と比較して格段に低下するのは否めないだろう。

Ethnography of Archaeological Excavation, Laboratory Analysis, and Site Development と題する科研（基礎研究(B) 文化人類学・民俗学関連）５ヵ年計画（研究期間：2019-2024）の経過報告である。

1) providing comparative ethnographic evidence to explain historical remains; 2) facilitating community outreach programs with the indigenous and local residents; 3) observing the social and political dynamics during archaological digs; and 4) analyzing representative strategies at heritage sites (Hamilakis and Anagnostopoulos 2009; Castaneda and Matthews, eds. 2008; Mortensen and Hollowell, eds. 2009). 海外の文化人類学的な諸研究から考古学への視点が語られている。引用文における参考文献で挙げられているHamilakis氏は、Journal of Contemporary Archaeology 第3巻 第2号(2016)の文章が「強制移動と非正規移動の考古学」として訳出されている（『現代思想』第46巻 第13号：81-100. 2018）。

Each section paired photographs of prehistoric tools or archaeological features alongside contemporary ethnic groups that display similar cultural patterns. Sano said comparative ethnographic approach is relatively unheard of at Japanese history museums. His decision to design the museum in this way, he said, was a natural extension from his training in the Archaeology and Ethnology course (minzokugaku kokogaku kenkyu shitsu) of Keio University - one of only a few courses in Japan to combine archaeology and anthropology.(2020:144.）

文字通りの「散種」。こうして後輩（彼は８期、私は４期）がいい働きをしているのを知ると嬉しくなる。
後ほどには、インタビューでのこんな発言も。

As for Keio, in regard to archaeology, they are absolutely on the periphery (aryu desu). However, I am glad I went to Keio because at the department of archaeology and ethnology... ethnology and archaeology are treated equally. Since you take classes in both, you learn not just archaeology or just ethnoloy, but you learn the knowledge and way people think in both disciplines. The result [of this education] is that I am glad to have gone to Keio. (2021:53.)

いくら掲載誌が学内刊行物であったとしても、少し持ち上げ過ぎのような気がしないでもないが。
ところで老舗の日本民族学会が日本文化人類学会に名称変更してもうすぐ20年になろうとしている。我が専攻名称もそろそろ検討の余地があるのではないだろうか？

Several people participated in this excavation. To briefly introduce, the excavation was directed by Yoshida Yasuyuki(Kanazawa University) and John Ertl(Keio University). Three students from Keio University economics department(Kodai, Asaka, and Ryo) joined as part of a year-long seminar led by Ertl.(2020:151.)

3人の大学生が発掘調査に参加しているが、いづれも考古学専攻の学生ではない。
なぜだろうか？
そもそもこの学術発掘を行なうにあたって、所属大学の考古学専攻の教員にどれほど通知がなされたのか不安になってくる。

Moreover, an archaeological vision is a skill that develops over time, as is attested by the fact that Sano could see pit houses, while Yoshida, Ertl, and the Keio students could only see vague patterns of light and dark soil.(2020:158-159.)

移植ゴテの使い方から教わる人たちが主体となってなされた調査なのだから、遺構を掘り上げるには至らず、当然こういうことになる。
遺構プランとして示されるのは、佐野氏の野帳に描かれたスケッチのみである（159.）。
しかし実験的な学術調査としてなされたのだから、それはそれでいいのであろう。

プロジェクト2年目である2020年に計画されていた第２次調査は、COVID-19感染拡大のために断念を余儀なくされる。
代案としてなされたのが、与助尾根・井戸尻・梅の木の復元住居作成に関わった関係者へのインタビューである。

Our thought was that because these sites all have similar archaeological remains, we can isolate the subjective elements that underlie their designs: whether they are the character of the designers, the histories of these sites or the concerns of archaeology at the time.(2021:40.)

縄文竪穴復元住居については、10月から12月まで江戸博で開催されていた「縄文2021 -東京に生きた縄文人-」の図録に収録された「展覧会特別企画 縄文竪穴式住居復原プロジェクト」（藤森 照信：112-129.）が参考になる。

Lastly, we would like to dedicate this article to Egawa Asaka, who passed away in early August 2020. We will fondly remember his enthusiastic work during excavation in 2019 and in our classes over the last few years. (2021:74.)

最後は、2019年の発掘調査に参加した学生に対する悲しい献辞で締めくくられている。
